I hope everyone had a great and safe July 4th weekend. When mine ended and it was back to regular life this Wednesday and my question was, “What's gonna be the big breaking story this week?”
I think most of us assume that pay attention to media this way that news flows in a certain cycle. I've noticed that different types of news stories break at different times during the week. If it doesn't make you suspicious when something really nasty drops on a Friday when a lot of folks are about to tune out for their weekend, to enjoy their lives, then maybe you should look at the pattern of behavior over time. So with a long weekend like this one and folks not tuning back in to politics what was this week's big story?
Cocaine in the White House.
After the initial giggling about something so absurd happening around this time, I asked myself “Why is something like this coming out now?”
Now this is completely speculative and your guess is as good as mine but doesn't it seem like a random security sweep of the cubbies that visitors of The West Wing use to store their electronics turned up this white powder that someone must have thought wouldn't be detected is a little suspicious?
Why the big news about it?
Are their Democrats in this country that are old enough to have voted for Bill Clinton that will be outraged that cocaine made it's way into The White House?
Are there LGBTQ+1ATards out there punching their steering wheel that the world is going down the toilet like an 8 ball during a raid?
No, its CON-servitives that are “Pouncing” on it as the media always describes. Now, I see no immediate wrong in pointing out that illegal substances winding up in one of the most secure buildings on the planet and using that to point to the transgressions of Hunter Biden that have been somewhat documented, but upon further examination this is a tabloid story. This is Jerry Springer stuff, RIP. And simple and stupid sell unfortunately.
The other stories of what our government did to us and is continuing to do to us are being put aside yet again for a minute issue instead of larger problems. The one glaring example is that after billions if not Trillions of dollars in fighting the drug war that cocaine is more likely to visit the West Wing than any of us. Especially in the capacity of the folks supposedly attending when this security sweep happened.
What should that tell us about our culture?
We went to war over a bastardized product, destroyed dozens of nations, ruined millions of lives, imprisoned countless non-violent criminals, and left generations fatherless and addicted to the governments own drugs of welfare, free housing, and soon Universal Basic Income. All brought to you by the same folks that ran the drug war, the people that allowed the money to flow in the black market that they created, the intelligence agencies, the state department, and the banks.
Just like the proxy war we're fighting in Ukraine, or the regime change wars of our recent past, the war machine runs on cocaine. It uses vice as a weapon against it's own people, it creates black markets to gamify the product that increases it in price, and the house always wins because if you're buying, selling, or even getting arrested the system makes money.
I think cocaine is a shit drug. Makes people annoying and the comedown is not worth the price of admission. I think it makes a great comparison for me of our current political system. One that needs a re-start with some more enlightened engineering.
We've seen romantic portrayals of American Values in the past such as Frank Capra's “Mr. Smith Goes To Washington”, well, the current generations have “Cocaine Bear Goes To Washington”.
In just a few generations of fighting a war on a substance, the substance won. What that says about human nature, our culture, and so on can be explored and should be, but instead of looking at how a small amount of coke can make its way to The White House, maybe it's time to drop the political outrage and finger pointing and actually tear down the wall we built in the drug war, the one that props up authoritarians, drug lords, pimps, and Presidents.
Ah yes...the black Friday posting for news. They do that so it can't be discussed on the weekend shows which are filmed on (wait for it) Friday mornings. : ) They've been doing that since the weekend talk shows started, way back. You're not crazy. You're spot on!
